65 Books to Read on Politics, Culture and Sociology

(Editor's note: In 1988, after high school but before college, I spent a year living as an exchange student in Australia. That year was Australia's bicentennial, and I learned a lot about the country's history, from its harsh origins as a British penal colony to the Australian government's theft of the entire continent from the Aboriginal natives who were already living there, a racist land grab that parallels the U.S. experience of ripping off the Native Americans. This is a reading list I compiled of books I saw on various folks' bookshelves during my year there that I hadn't yet read but wanted to.)
